Productive Learning in Spain

idap The Institute of Productive Learning – IDAP is a municipal centre founded in 1994 for the implementation and promotion of Productive Learning in Vilafranca del Penedès and Catalonia.

Its activity started in the field of non-formal education becoming a different training resource of the Municipality of in the policy of fighting against the emergent unemployment and, at the same time, of accomplishment with the lifelong learning philosophy.

IDAP has attended a big diversity of student’s profile in the frame of its different training programmes, in vocational training and general education, students and adult people of different ages, academical levels and social and psychological backgrounds.

IDAP has the collaboration of near of one hundred of firms in more than 60 professional fields for the development of its Productive Learning programmes.

Vilafranca City Hall took part in the INEPS foundation in 1990. Since 1994 is represented through IDAP.


VOCATIONAL TRAINING

VILAFRANCA CITY- AS - SCHOOL (since 1994)

It is a training programme for unemployed people with specific educational needs or people interested in their personal and professional development. Its pedagogical aims are the acquirement of technical abilities, professional capacities and personal growth in the students, who learn in an active way, through practical learning based in individual training plans in different professional fields chosen by themselves.

Target group: Unemployed people older than 16 years old.
Participants: 20 persons par group - 40 persons whole course (aprox.)

City as School model is being implemented continuously
in vocational training programs to the Vilafranca’s municipality.


GENERAL EDUCATION

PRODUCTIVE LEARNING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS - MAP CLASS (since 2002)

It’s an educational programme based on Vilafranca City-as-School model.

The learning activity is based in individual training plans which combine the basic curriculum and the acquirement of professional knowledge through practical experiences in firms. Other pedagogical elements are the individual consultation and support in each stage of the educational process.

Up to now IDAP has developed these PL modules in all public secondary schools of Vilafranca del Penedès and in a semi-private school of the city.

Target group: Students of the last two grades of secondary level of compulsory education (15-16 years old) who have failed before in the process of scholar adaptation and academic success.
Participants: 12-13 students par module.

 

In Catalonia MAP model is considered one of the best models of organization, functioning and methodological approach in the assistance to disadvantaged students, a model which is being inspirational to other experiences in all the country.
